Why Visit Thailand

The Country That Makes
Travel Feel Easy

Thailand is where most Indian travellers fall in love with Asia, and it's easy to see why. It is four hours away, warm all winter, gloriously good value, and set up for visitors in a way few countries manage — without ever feeling processed. Bangkok's temples and rooftop bars, Chiang Mai's mountains and monasteries, and a coastline that runs from Phuket's limestone bays to Koh Samui's quiet sand.

"You come for the beaches and the massages, and you leave talking about the food, the manners and the light on the water at six in the evening."

It also rewards the second visit more than the first. Once you've done the Grand Palace and a long-tail boat, Thailand opens up — Isaan's food, Kanchanaburi's rivers, the islands nobody posts about. We plan both versions, and the difference is usually pace, not budget.

Why Travellers Choose Thailand
Cultural heritage: Wat Pho, the Grand Palace, Ayutthaya's ruins and Chiang Mai's hillside temples.
Modern icons: Bangkok's rooftop bars, riverside hotels, and some of Asia's best shopping.
Natural beauty: The Andaman's limestone karsts, Khao Sok's rainforest, northern mountains.
Cuisine: Street food that outclasses most restaurants — and one of the world's great kitchens.
Hidden gems: Isaan, Kanchanaburi, Koh Lanta and the islands beyond the postcards.
For Indian Travellers
Only about four hours from Delhi, Mumbai or Bengaluru — a long weekend is genuinely viable.
Vegetarian and Jain food widely available; Indian restaurants in every tourist centre.
Indian passport holders get visa-free entry for tourist stays of up to 30 days.
Exceptional value: five-star Thailand costs what four-star costs in most of Europe.
Easy with children and with parents — short transfers, good hospitals, no altitude, no long drives.

by Region

Thailand divides into six tourism regions — the temple-and-river heart, the cool north, the Isaan heartland, the eastern coast, and the two southern coasts: the Andaman and the Gulf.

When Is Your Thailand?

November – February
Cool, Dry & Perfect
The season everyone wants. Warm days, low humidity, calm seas on both coasts. Peak demand over Christmas and New Year — book well ahead.
Best
March – May
Hot Season
Genuinely hot, but the islands stay glorious and prices soften. Songkran in April is one of Asia's great festivals.
Good
June – August
Green Season
Short sharp downpours rather than all-day rain, and the countryside turns brilliant green. The Gulf islands often stay dry when the Andaman doesn't.
Good
September – October
The Quiet Months
Wettest on the Andaman coast, and the best value of the year. Bangkok and the Gulf remain very doable.

A visa is never guaranteed

Meeting every published requirement does not guarantee that a visa is issued. Each application is assessed on its own merits by the relevant authority, which may request further documents or refuse an application without giving reasons. Live Traveller can prepare and check your documentation, but no agent or operator can promise an outcome — and you should treat anyone who does with caution. Book refundable arrangements until your visa is in hand.

Live Traveller Handles Your Visa

For all Thailand journeys we design, we prepare your complete visa documentation package — the forms, the supporting documents, the sequence of submission. Our visa specialists help travellers prepare complete applications with careful document guidance. Final visa decisions always remain with the relevant authorities.

What to Carry

Entry & Requirements

Average Costs & Budget

How Much Does Thailand Cost?

Thailand spans the widest price range in Asia. The same week can be a beach shack or a private-island villa.

Duration & RouteStyleEstimated Cost (per person)

6–8 Nights — Bangkok + Chiang Mai + islandPremiumOn Request
7 Nights — Andaman islandsLuxuryOn Request

A note on cost

We quote per journey rather than per brochure — season, islands and hotel tier move the number far more than the number of nights.

Food in Thailand
Vegetarian: Straightforward — but ask for 'jay' (vegetarian) as fish sauce and shrimp paste hide in many dishes.
Indian food: Excellent Indian restaurants in Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi and Chiang Mai.
Street food: Some of the best eating in the world, and safe in the busy stalls where locals queue.
Must try: Khao soi in the north, som tam in Isaan, and a proper green curry anywhere.
Jain/no onion-garlic: Possible with notice — we brief hotels and guides in advance.
Getting Around
Domestic flights: Cheap, frequent and the sane way to reach the islands and the north.
Private car: How we move most guests — Bangkok traffic is not for the impatient.
Boats: Ferries and speedboats to the islands; timings shift with the sea and season.
In Bangkok: The BTS Skytrain and river boats beat any taxi at rush hour.
Travel Tips

Travel Thailand Intelligently

Thailand is forgiving, but a little cultural literacy changes the trip.

Do
Enjoy visa-free entry for up to 30 days — carry proof of onward travel and accommodation.
Treat images of the King and the royal family with respect. This matters deeply here.
Learn 'sawasdee' and 'khop khun' — a wai and a smile go a very long way.
Eat where the queue is. Busy stalls are fresh stalls.
Agree a taxi fare or insist on the meter before setting off.
Don't
Don't touch anyone's head, or point your feet at a person or a Buddha image.
Don't lose your temper in public — visible anger is a serious loss of face.
Don't ride an elephant. Choose an accredited sanctuary instead; we only use ethical ones.
Don't buy Buddha images as souvenirs — export is restricted and it causes genuine offence.
Don't underestimate the sun or the sea — the Andaman has real currents in green season.

Thailand Travel FAQ

No — Indian passport holders get visa-free entry for tourist stays of up to 30 days, so no visa is needed in advance for a short trip. Your passport should be valid at least six months from arrival, and immigration may ask for proof of onward travel, accommodation and funds. Visa regulations may change without prior notice. Travellers should verify the latest requirements with the Royal Thai Embassy or the official Thailand e-Visa portal before travel.
November to February — cool, dry and calm on both coasts. April brings Songkran and serious heat. June to October is green season: cheaper, greener, and the Gulf islands often stay dry when the Andaman doesn't.
Four to five nights is enough for Bangkok plus one beach. Give it a week and you can add Chiang Mai or a second island. Don't try both coasts in under a week — you'll spend the trip in transit.
Very. Short flights, no altitude, warm shallow water on the Gulf side, excellent hospitals and genuinely child-friendly hotels. Thais adore children — expect your kids to be fussed over everywhere.
Yes — it's one of the easiest countries in Asia for parents. Short flights, no altitude, lifts and ramps in the good hotels, and world-class private hospitals in Bangkok and Phuket. We keep transfers short and avoid the long ferry crossings.
Krabi or Koh Lanta for quiet and karst scenery, Koh Samui for easy comfort, Phuket for variety and the best hotels. Many couples pair two nights in Bangkok with five on the sand.
Easily. Every tourist centre has Indian restaurants, and Thai food is naturally vegetable-heavy — but ask for 'jay' and mention no fish sauce, which hides in many dishes that look vegetarian. Jain and no onion-garlic meals can be arranged with notice.
Yes, very. The usual care with scams, taxi fares and the sea, and ordinary sense at night. Healthcare is excellent and English is widely spoken in tourist areas.
September and October — the wettest months on the Andaman, and the cheapest. Rain usually arrives in short bursts, not all day. The Gulf islands are the better bet in those months.

Packing Guide

What to Pack
for Thailand

Thailand is hot, humid and relaxed — pack light, modest for temples, and leave room for what you'll buy.

👕
Clothing
Light, breathable cottons and linens — it is hot and humid year-round
Shoulders-and-knees cover for temple visits (a scarf works)
Swimwear, flip-flops and a quick-dry towel
One light layer for fierce restaurant and mall air-conditioning
📄
Documents & Money
Passport (6+ months validity) and return-ticket proof
Thai Baht cash — many small vendors and islands are cash-only
Cards widely accepted in cities; ATMs charge ~฿220 per withdrawal
Travel insurance including water sports and scooters
📱
Tech & Connectivity
A local eSIM or SIM (AIS/True) — cheap, fast, everywhere
Universal adapter (Thailand uses Type A/B/C, 220V)
Grab app for taxis and food — the local Uber
Offline Google Maps and a translation app
💊
Health & Essentials
High-SPF reef-safe sunscreen and strong insect repellent
A basic medical kit and any personal medicines
Drink bottled water; pharmacies are excellent and cheap
Rehydration salts — the heat is real
💡
Thailand Packing Pro Tip

Pack half of what you think and buy the rest there. Thai markets and malls are superb and cheap for clothes, and laundry services cost a few baht a kilo — travel light and let Thailand fill your bag.
