A full day among the big elephant herds Amboseli is known for. Kilimanjaro sits behind them and shows itself most reliably in the first and last hour of light.

Lake NakuruRoad transfer

North across the floor of the Rift Valley, with the escarpment viewpoints on the way and an evening drive on arrival.

Day 5

Lake Nakuru

A soda lake edged with flamingos in the right conditions, and a well-established rhino sanctuary — among the more dependable places in Kenya to see both black and white rhino.

Masai MaraLight aircraft

A light aircraft west over the Rift to the Mara, landing on an airstrip inside the reserve, and straight out on an afternoon drive across the plains while the light is still good.

No. Everything on a safari is wild and free-ranging, and any operator promising particular animals on particular days is selling something they cannot deliver. What can be arranged is the odds: three parks with different habitats, three nights in the Mara rather than one, drives at dawn and dusk when animals are most active, and guides who work the area daily and follow the game rather than a set route. Most travellers on this shape of trip see a great deal; nobody can put it in writing beforehand.
Less than most Kenya itineraries of this length, because two of the three long sectors are flown. The Rift Valley leg to Lake Nakuru is by road and is worth doing that way for the escarpment views, while Amboseli and the Mara are reached by light aircraft. Inside the parks the driving is the safari itself — game drives of a few hours at dawn and again in the late afternoon, with the middle of the day free.
Often yes, with the right pacing. Game drives are long stretches of sitting in a vehicle on rough tracks, and dawn starts are the norm, which suits some ages better than others. Many camps set a minimum age for certain activities, and a balloon flight has its own restrictions. Tell us who is travelling when you enquire and we will match the camps and the drive lengths to the group rather than leaving it to be discovered on the first morning.
Kenya is a year-round safari destination and each part of the year reads differently — the dry months concentrate animals around water and make tracks easier, the green season brings newborn game and far fewer vehicles.
