That is chosen with you rather than fixed in advance, and it is the single decision that most changes the trip. Atolls differ in flying time from Malé, islands differ in size, reef quality and how much they cater to families as against couples, and villa categories range from beach to overwater. We match the island to what you want from the six nights and to your budget, and confirm the property in writing before anything is booked.
By speedboat or seaplane from Velana International, depending on which island you choose and how far out it sits. Seaplanes operate in daylight hours only, which sometimes means an overnight near Malé if your international flight lands late — something we check against your actual flight times when arranging the trip rather than leaving you to discover on arrival.
It is the length at which a one-island trip stops feeling rushed. Two or three nights are largely spent arriving and leaving; at six there is room for the reef, the spa, the sandbank and the sunset sail and still a day that belongs to nobody. Couples pairing the Maldives with somewhere else often shorten it; those treating it as the whole honeymoon frequently add a night or two. Either is easy to arrange.
Whatever the island you choose actually offers, and we would rather tell you that than list things here that may not apply. Many properties extend something to honeymooning couples — a room upgrade subject to availability, a decorated arrival, a dinner — but these vary by resort and by season and none of them is a promise this journey can make on the resort's behalf. We confirm exactly what is included for your dates and property before you book.
The dusk cruise goes into channels where spinner pods are seen often, but they are wild animals and no sighting can be guaranteed. Diving is not part of the journey as written and is arranged on the island — most resorts have a dive centre, and certified divers and beginners are usually both catered for. If diving matters to you, say so at enquiry, because it is a real factor in which island suits you.
