Our Responsibility

Travel that leaves a place better

The world is our whole business. Looking after it — its wild places, its cultures, the people who call it home — is simply part of doing that business well.

Why this matters to us

We sell the world; so we owe it

A travel company that treats the planet carelessly is quietly spending down its own inheritance. The reefs, the old towns, the forests and the festivals are not a backdrop to what we do — they are what we do. So our approach to sustainability isn’t a badge or a page we felt obliged to write; it’s a set of quiet habits woven through how we plan every journey. We won’t pretend to have solved travel’s hardest problems. But we can promise to keep choosing the better option, to be honest about the trade-offs, and to send you somewhere that will still be worth visiting for your children.

The best trips give back to their hosts

Tourism, done thoughtlessly, can hollow out the very places it visits. Done well, it keeps a craft alive, funds a school, gives a young guide a reason to stay. We favour locally owned stays, local guides and experiences that put money into the community’s hands — because a place looked after by its own people is always the more beautiful for it.

How we try to travel well

Three quiet commitments

Not slogans — the practical choices we make, journey by journey, that add up over a year of travel.

The long view

A place worth visiting twice

The measure of a journey well made isn’t only how it felt this year — it’s whether the place is still there, still itself, when you or your children return.

The world we’re looking after

Reason enough, all of it

A reef, a coastline, an island lagoon, a last stretch of quiet water — the places that make the argument better than any policy could.

Good intentions, made practical

Our free Atlas guides quietly build sustainability into your planning — when to travel to avoid the crowds, how to get around without flying, which experiences give back. Knowledge before commerce, here as everywhere.

Honest questions

Isn’t all long-haul travel bad for the planet?

It carries a real carbon cost, and we won’t pretend otherwise. Our answer isn’t to stop travelling but to travel more thoughtfully — fewer, longer, deeper trips, greener choices on the ground, and honest offsetting where it helps.

Do you charge extra for “sustainable” trips?

No. The choices we describe here are simply how we plan — they’re built into every itinerary, not sold as a premium add-on.

How do you choose your partners?

We look for genuine environmental and community credentials, sensible practices, and a track record we can verify — and we part ways with partners who stop meeting them.

Can I ask for a lower-impact version of my trip?

Always. Tell your specialist it matters to you and we’ll shape the routing, stays and experiences accordingly. It’s a request we love to get.
