The highest peak in Wayanad at around 2,100 m, climbed for the heart-shaped lake set into the ridge partway up. It is a steep, exposed grassland climb rather than a forest walk, and entry is capped by the forest department — this is the one Wayanad sight that needs checking before you plan a day around it.

Yes. Entry is controlled by the forest department, capped daily, and a guide is compulsory. Tickets are issued at the base near Meppadi on a first-come basis, so arrive at opening. This is a forest entry permit rather than a travel permit — Kerala requires none of those.

The heart-shaped lake is where most visitors stop and where many permits terminate. The summit beyond is steeper and access has been restricted at times for conservation. Ask at the forest office what your permit covers.
Not for young children or anyone unsteady on uneven ground. Older travellers in good hiking condition manage it, but there is no shade, no water and no easy turnaround point once you are on the slope.
