When is your UAE?
Warm days, cool evenings, sea you can swim in and a desert you can sit in after dark. Global Village is open, the Dubai Shopping Festival runs across December and January, and every outdoor thing in the country is at its best. Christmas and New Year are the peak of the peak — hotel rates rise sharply and the Burj Khalifa fireworks fill the city.
Hot in the afternoon, pleasant in the morning and evening, and noticeably cheaper than the winter. The sea is warm and the beaches are usable. April is the better of the two — October is still cooling down from summer.
The UAE is open and welcoming during Ramadan, but the day runs differently: many restaurants close or screen off until sunset, hours shorten, and the evenings — iftar tents, night markets, the Grand Mosque after dark — are the highlight. Eating and drinking in public in daylight is restricted. Check the dates before you book; they move about eleven days earlier each year.
Temperatures above forty degrees and heavy humidity on the coast. The city moves inside — malls, aquariums, indoor parks and hotel pools — and rates are the lowest of the year. It works for a shopping trip or a stopover with a good hotel; it does not work for the desert, the mountains or the beach at midday.

UAE visa — what you need to know
Indian passport holders need a visa for the UAE, and for most travellers it is arranged for them rather than by them. The UAE government portal states that the country's embassies do not issue tourist visas: a UAE-based airline, a licensed travel agent or the hotel you are staying at applies on your behalf to the federal immigration authority (ICP) or to GDRFA in Dubai. The Embassy of the UAE in New Delhi says the same — it does not issue visit or tourist visas on ordinary passports. There is one exception, for Indians who already hold certain US, UK, EU or other permits.
Fees and timing, as the UAE publishes them The UAE government portal states that its embassies do not issue tourist visas and that a UAE-based airline, licensed travel agent or hotel applies to the immigration authorities on the traveller's behalf; the Embassy of the UAE in New Delhi confirms it does not issue visit or tourist visas on ordinary passports. For Indian nationals holding a valid US visa (per the embassy) or a valid residence permit from the United States, an EU member state, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Japan, Korea, Australia, New Zealand or Canada (per the federal authority), a visa on arrival exists in two forms: 14 days, extendable once, at AED 100, or 60 days, single entry and non-extendable, at AED 250 — those are the federal authority's figures, while GDRFA Dubai lists AED 253 for its online 14-day service with a stated 48-hour turnaround. Passport and permit must each have six months of validity. No processing time is published for sponsor-arranged tourist visas, so apply through your sponsor as soon as flights are confirmed. Overstaying is fined at AED 50 per day. Fees and rules are set by the UAE authorities and change; confirm them on the channel you use. Final decisions on entry remain with the UAE authorities.
