Dry months, and the hurricane window

Best overall
Nov – Apr
The dry season

The best months and the reason most people come now: least rain, lower humidity, calm sea and comfortable walking weather in the Blue Mountains. Christmas and the weeks around it are the busiest and priciest stretch of the year, so aim for January to April if you can choose.

Quiet shoulder
May – Jun
First rains, fewer people

A wetter spell that usually arrives as heavy afternoon showers rather than all-day rain. The island is green, prices ease and the north coast is noticeably quieter. Good value if you can accept an interrupted afternoon.

Storm risk
Jul – Nov
Hurricane season

The Atlantic hurricane season, and Jamaica is in its path rather than beside it. Risk concentrates from August into October. Most days pass as ordinary hot tropical days, but build flexibility into the itinerary and take the insurance question seriously.

Good value
Late Nov
The turn

Storm risk drops, the island is still green from the rains and the winter crowds have not arrived. One of the better-value arrivals in the Caribbean calendar.

Jamaica entry — no visa for an Indian passport

The Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency publishes a per-nationality entry table, and its India row reads "INDIA (Commonwealth) — NO visa required". That is a direct determination from the immigration authority rather than an inference from a general page, and it is unusually clean: no application, no consular appointment, no processing time. Two things are worth being precise about. First, PICA states no permitted length of stay for India. Many rows in the same table do carry one — Hong Kong at 30 days, Iceland at 90 — and India’s does not, in common with the other Commonwealth entries. We are not going to invent a number, so confirm the period you will be granted with PICA or at the port of entry. Second, no visa is not the same as guaranteed entry: PICA’s general requirement is that every traveller present a valid and approved travel document evidencing identity and nationality, and admission is decided by the immigration officer.

Why this section is short Because the answer is short. Jamaica names India directly in its immigration authority’s entry table and places it in the no-visa-required column, so there is no application to describe, no fee to quote and no processing time to plan around. The only genuine uncertainty is the permitted period, and rather than repeat the figure that circulates on travel sites we will say plainly that PICA’s table does not state one for India and that you should confirm it. Everything else on a Jamaican arrival is ordinary: a valid passport, somewhere to stay, and onward travel. We do not publish Jamaican entry fees here.

Good to Know

Frequently asked

No. Jamaica’s Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency publishes a per-nationality entry table and its India row reads "INDIA (Commonwealth) — NO visa required". That is a direct determination from the immigration authority, not an inference. You still need a valid passport, and admission is decided by the immigration officer at entry.
PICA does not say, and we are not going to invent a figure. Many rows in the same table carry a period — Hong Kong 30 days, Iceland 90 — but India’s does not, in common with the other Commonwealth entries. Confirm the stay you will be granted with PICA or at the port of entry.
November to April is the dry season and the best window, with the least rain and the calmest sea. Aim for January to April if you can, because Christmas and the weeks around it are the busiest and priciest stretch. July to November is the Atlantic hurricane season.
Two UNESCO inscriptions’ worth. The Blue and John Crow Mountains were inscribed in 2015 as a mixed site — for their biodiversity and for the Maroon history in the terrain — and the Archaeological Ensemble of 17th Century Port Royal joined the list in 2025, much of it underwater since the 1692 earthquake. Port Antonio in the east is the quiet, green, steep Jamaica that the north-coast strip is not.
It is small but slow. Roads wind, and distances on the map understate drive times badly. A car and driver is the usual arrangement for crossing the island; route taxis handle local movement; and a short domestic flight between Montego Bay and Kingston can save a long transfer if you are combining the west with the capital.
Jerk cooked over pimento wood, which is the version that does not travel. Ackee and saltfish is the national dish and a breakfast. Escovitch fish on the coast, patties at any hour, and rice and peas with everything. Blue Mountain coffee is grown on the slopes behind Kingston and is better bought at an estate than at the airport.
No. English is the official language and is universal in writing, signage and officialdom, so you will never be stuck. Jamaican Patois is the everyday spoken language and you will hear it constantly — understanding a little makes the trip richer, but nothing depends on it.
Better than its reputation suggests. Ital cooking, associated with Rastafari, is plant-based by principle and widely available, and rice and peas, callaloo, festival, breadfruit, plantain and patties give you real options. The caution is that "vegetable" dishes are sometimes cooked with meat stock or alongside saltfish, so ask rather than assume.
