When to go to Mauritius
Cooler, drier and far less humid, with the calmest sea conditions. This is the long, reliable window and it covers most of the year. September to December is particularly pleasant.
Hot, humid and the period when tropical cyclones can affect the island. Rates fall accordingly. Trips do go ahead, but flexibility and insurance matter more in these months.
The coolest months, with pleasant days and cooler evenings. Best for the interior, hiking at Black River Gorges and the kitesurfing season on the west coast at Le Morne.
Warming up before the humidity arrives, with excellent water clarity for diving and snorkelling. A strong window for honeymoons and for families travelling in the Indian festive break.

Mauritius entry — free, on arrival
Entry is granted at the immigration counter on arrival at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, free of charge, provided you meet the documentation requirements. Published sources differ on whether the standard grant is sixty or ninety days, so confirm the stamp you receive on arrival rather than assuming a figure.
Extensions Stays can be extended case by case at the Passport and Immigration Office in Port Louis, up to a maximum of six months within a calendar year, and must be applied for before your current permission expires.
