Delhi
The capital: Mughal monuments, a walled old city and the gateway for the north.
Why Delhi
Delhi is a National Capital Territory and, for most visitors, the start of an India trip. Three of its monuments are UNESCO World Heritage Sites — Red Fort (inscribed 2007), Humayun's Tomb and the Qutb Minar complex (both 1993) — and Old Delhi adds living streets and the Jama Masjid.

How to travel Delhi
A metro network plus car or taxi for monuments.
By air
- Delhi's airport is the main national gateway. An Airport Express metro line links the airport with New Delhi station.
In the city
- Use the metro where it is convenient and a car with a driver for a multi-monument day. Check opening hours and ticketing for each monument on the ASI site before you go.
