From Munnar
- About 32 km, roughly one hour by road
- A car with driver is the practical option; the road is winding
- Local buses run but infrequently and too late for the best light
When to visit
Because it never closes, Top Station rewards the early and the late. Arrive at sunrise (or after sunset, when the gates are lit) for empty tunnels and soft light. Mid-morning to afternoon is shoulder-to-shoulder at the lower gates — but the crowds thin dramatically beyond the Yotsutsuji viewpoint, so keep climbing for the shot and the silence.

- September to January gives the clearest conditions
- Avoid the monsoon, when it is usually cloud all day
- Sunrise trips are widely offered and are the best use of the drive
