Dubai’s Museum of the Future is closed until early 2027

The Museum of the Future shut its galleries on 1 September 2026 for a complete rebuild of its exhibitions and plans to reopen in the first quarter of 2027. Dubai itineraries this season need a substitute.

What has changed

The Museum of the Future on Sheikh Zayed Road closed its exhibitions to visitors from 1 September 2026. The museum announced the closure on its website and Instagram account in late August, saying the current chapter was ending and that a new generation of immersive experiences, shaped partly by visitor suggestions, would replace the existing galleries.

Gulf News reports the reopening is planned for the first quarter of 2027, timed to the building’s fifth anniversary. The museum’s own website now reads that it is “temporarily closed as we prepare for our next chapter”, with the online retail store and “selected experiences” still available. No reopening date is printed on the site.

What it means for a Dubai trip

The Museum of the Future was one of the most-booked ticketed attractions in Dubai, and its closure covers the whole Diwali, Christmas and New Year season. If a package or itinerary you are holding lists it as an inclusion, ask for the replacement now rather than at the hotel desk.

The building itself can still be photographed from outside and from the Emirates Towers metro walkway, which is how most visitors first see it anyway. For an indoor half-day in the same part of town, the Dubai Frame and the Etihad Museum are the usual substitutes. We will update this article when the museum names a reopening date. See our United Arab Emirates guide for the rest of the season’s planning.
