Manas National Park reopens to tourists on 2 October
Assam’s Manas National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, opens for the 2026–27 season on 2 October. Each of its four ranges will close to visitors one day a week.
What is happening
Manas National Park in Assam will reopen to tourists on Friday 2 October 2026 after its monsoon closure, Nitish Boro, ranger of the park’s Bansbari range, said on 24 September. The reopening will be marked by a programme at the park’s second main entrance, according to The Sentinel and Northeast Now, which both reported the announcement. The park will then remain open “until further orders”, the ranger said.
Manas is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a tiger reserve on Assam’s border with Bhutan, and the elephants of its grasslands are one of the sights visitors come for.
The weekly closure days
Each of the park’s four tourist ranges will close to visitors on one day a week: Bansbari on Tuesdays, Kuklung on Wednesdays, Bhuyanpara on Thursdays and Panbari on Fridays. If your safari is booked at a particular range, check that your day is not its closed day. The announcement did not give safari timings, fees or how to book, and we have not found them published for this season.
What it means if you are going
The season opens in time for the Durga Puja holidays, a busy period for travel in the northeast. Book safaris through the park’s authorised channels or your lodge, and ask which range you will enter. Assam’s other big park, Kaziranga, has not announced its reopening date: its divisional forest officer has said only that it is expected to open in October, weather permitting.
