Mount Yotei and Mount Niseko-Annupuri under snow on a clear winter day in Hokkaido

Marriott opens a 310-room Moxy at the base of the Niseko gondola

Moxy Niseko Village is the brand’s first alpine hotel in Japan and its fifth in the country, opening before a ski season that also brings a new eight-person gondola.

What has opened

Marriott has opened Moxy Niseko Village, a 310-key hotel adjacent to the Niseko Village Gondola at the base of Mount Niseko Annupuri in Hokkaido. It is the fifth Moxy in Japan, after Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto, and the brand’s debut in the country’s alpine resort market. The hotel has ski-in and ski-out access, a Moxy Bar and Cafe, a grab-and-go counter and a 24-hour gym.

The opening is timed to a new eight-person gondola at Niseko Village from December 2026, which the announcement says will double uplift capacity. Cristiano Rinaldi, Marriott International’s Chief Lodging Product and Services Officer for Asia Pacific excluding China, said "Niseko’s year-round appeal, global reputation and adventurous spirit make it a natural fit for Moxy."

What it means for a Japan ski trip

Niseko has been the hardest part of a Japan winter itinerary to price for Indian families, because the on-mountain inventory has been dominated by expensive independents and branded residences. Three hundred and ten keys of a mid-market international brand at the lift base changes that arithmetic, and it is bookable through a loyalty programme many Indian travellers already hold points in.

The practical route is Delhi or Mumbai to Tokyo, a domestic hop to New Chitose, then road transfer to Hokkaido’s Niseko area. The ski season and the new gondola both start in December, which sits just after the autumn-colour window and before the New Year peak — the cheapest fortnight of the Japanese winter to travel in. No nightly rates were published in the announcement.
