A small sanctuary on the Vembanad lakeshore, best known for the migratory birds that arrive each winter. Be clear about the seasonality: between November and February it is genuinely rewarding, and outside that window it is a pleasant patch of lakeside woodland with comparatively little to see.

November to February, when migratory species are present, and at dawn. This is a strongly seasonal site — outside the winter window it is a pleasant patch of lakeside woodland with comparatively few birds.
In season, migratory waders and waterfowl alongside resident egrets, herons, darters and kingfishers. Species and numbers vary year to year with conditions, and no sighting can be promised.
Two to three hours including the walkway and, if arranged, a boat along the lake edge. Serious birders spend longer and start earlier.
Binoculars are effectively essential — without them the visit is much reduced. A local guide improves identification considerably and is worth arranging through your resort.
The walkway is short and level, so both manage it easily. The dawn start and the mosquitoes are the practical considerations rather than the terrain.
Honestly, not as a primary reason to travel. Resident birds are present year-round and the setting is pleasant, but if birdlife is why you are coming, plan for November to February.
