Langkawi SkyCab
The Langkawi SkyCab is a cable car that climbs Mount Machinchang from Oriental Village, at the foot of the mountain on Langkawi's west coast. The ride to the top station at 708 metres takes about 15 minutes, with a middle station at 650 metres on the way. The mountain lies inside Machinchang Cambrian Geoforest Park, one of the three geoforest parks of the Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark, where the rock is estimated to be over 550 million years old. UNESCO describes the SkyCab as one of the longest and steepest free-span cable car rides in Southeast Asia.

Check the calendar
The SkyCab publishes an operation calendar, and it is worth reading before you commit a day.
From the operator
- The calendar lists weekly maintenance entries on some Wednesdays, as well as normal operating days.
- When the SkyCab is closed, the Sky Bridge, SkyGlide and SkyBistro are closed too.
- The operator states the calendar can change without notice.
Our planning notes
- Avoid fixing the SkyCab on a Wednesday or your last day on the island, so a closure does not cost you the visit.
- Views depend on cloud at the summit; if the mountain is hidden from the coast, consider waiting.
