The Philippines became substantially easier for Indian travellers in June 2025, when a visa-free scheme replaced the old application process. Fourteen days without a visa is enough for two islands done properly, and thirty days is available to Indians who already hold a US, UK, Schengen, Australian, Canadian, Japanese or Singaporean visa or residence permit — a large share of the market.
What you get is an archipelago of more than seven thousand islands with a character quite unlike the rest of Southeast Asia. Three centuries of Spanish rule and half a century of American administration left Catholic churches, a Latin-inflected culture and near-universal English. It is the easiest country in the region to travel in linguistically, and among the least visited by Indians.
The scenery is the draw. El Nido and Coron in Palawan have limestone cliffs rising out of impossibly clear lagoons; Bohol has the Chocolate Hills and tarsiers; Siargao has the surf; and the Tubbataha reefs and Anilao are world-class diving. The catch is distance — islands mean flights, and the archipelago rewards choosing two areas rather than five.

Since 8 June 2025 all Indian passport holders may enter the Philippines visa-free for up to fourteen days for tourism, and that fourteen days is neither extendable nor convertible. You must present a passport valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay, a confirmed hotel booking, proof of financial capacity, and a return or onward ticket to your next destination. Indians holding a valid and current visa or residence permit from Australia, Canada, Japan, a Schengen country, Singapore, the United States or the United Kingdom qualify for thirty days instead, on the same passport-validity and onward-ticket conditions. Either tier may be used at any Philippine port of entry, and you must have no derogatory record with the Bureau of Immigration. If you are transiting, or travelling for a purpose the scheme does not cover, you need a visa. Separately, every traveller must complete eTravel registration.
The standard visa-free stay cannot be extended from inside the country, and the onward ticket must fall within it. Plan the itinerary to the day, and if you need longer, check whether you qualify for the thirty-day tier.
If you hold a current US, UK, Schengen, Australian, Canadian, Japanese or Singaporean visa or residence permit, you get thirty days rather than fourteen. It is worth confirming before compressing an itinerary.
Between June and November, inter-island flights and ferries are cancelled at short notice. Leave a buffer day in Manila or Cebu before an international departure.
