That scale is the single thing most first-time itineraries get wrong. Brazil is not a country you tour; it is a country where you choose two or three regions and let each one have proper time. Rio and Iguaçu is a classic first pairing. Rio and the Amazon is a bolder one. The northeast beaches are a holiday in their own right.
What travellers remember, though, is rarely the itinerary. It is that Brazil is loud in the best sense — music in the street, long lunches, football on every corner, a coastline people actually live on. It rewards visitors who arrive ready to join in rather than to observe.

Brazil visa — what you need to know
Indian passport holders need a visa for Brazil. For tourism the relevant category is the VIVIS visitor visa, applied for through the Embassy of Brazil in New Delhi. There is no visa on arrival.
A VIVIS visitor visa covers tourism, short business visits, transit and events. The activities it permits must not exceed 90 days, and it may be extended by up to a further 90 days — to a maximum of 180 days in any twelve-month period. Paid work in Brazil is not permitted on this visa.
The application form is completed online first. Submitting the form is not itself the application — it is processed once an appointment is requested through the embassy's e-consular system. The embassy states an average processing time of around 15 days for this category. No appointment is needed to collect the visa.
Entry rules and processing times change, and only the Embassy of Brazil in New Delhi can confirm what applies to your passport and travel dates. We do not publish visa fees here — they change, and they should not be planned against a third-party page.
India requires a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate from travellers arriving from a country on the WHO yellow fever endemic list, and Brazil is on that list. The rule also catches transit: it applies if you leave the airport transit area in an endemic country. The certificate must be issued by a vaccination centre authorised by India's Directorate General of Health Services, becomes valid only ten days after vaccination, and is then valid for life. If you arrive in India without a valid certificate you may be quarantined until it becomes valid, or for up to six days, whichever comes first — and a doctor's letter of exemption does not prevent that quarantine. Carry the original certificate.
Because the certificate takes ten days to become valid, this belongs at the start of your planning rather than the end. The WHO endemic list is amended from time to time, so confirm with a DGHS-authorised vaccination centre before you travel.

Two things drive the Brazilian timeline: Carnival, which the entire country books around, and the Pantanal dry season, where the good lodges are small.
