French pilots and cabin crew call a five-day strike from 17 October
Unions representing pilots and cabin crew in France have called a nationwide strike for 17–21 October, at the start of the Toussaint school holidays. Airlines have not yet published what will fly.
What has been called
An alliance of unions representing pilots and cabin crew in France has called a nationwide five-day strike from Saturday 17 October to Wednesday 21 October 2026, The Local reported on 21 September, citing AFP. The dates fall at the start of the Toussaint school holidays. The dispute is over the government’s planned reform of the “cumul emploi-retraite” system, which allows people to keep working while drawing a pension.
Travel Trade Journal, reporting the same call on 24 September, names the unions involved as UNSA PNC, SNPNC, SNGAF, SNPL and UNAC. Because the dispute is about French pension law, the call covers crews employed under French labour rules — which includes Air France’s.
What is not yet known
No airline has published a flight programme for the strike days, and we have found no estimate of how many flights will be cancelled. Strikes are sometimes called off or scaled back after negotiations. We will update this article when airlines publish their plans.
