When to go to Hong Kong
The strongest stretch by a distance — dry, clear and comfortable, with the humidity gone and the harbour views at their sharpest. It is also the best hiking weather of the year, which matters more here than most people expect.
Cool and often grey, occasionally genuinely cold on the hills, and prone to damp sea fog in late winter that can hide the harbour entirely. Quiet and cheap, and perfectly good for eating and museums. Lunar New Year moves between late January and February and is very busy.
Warming and increasingly humid, with fog common in spring. Comfortable early in the period and hard work by June. A reasonable compromise window if autumn does not suit.
Hot, very humid and the typhoon season. A signal 8 or above shuts the city — ferries stop, flights go, shops close — usually for under a day but occasionally longer. Build slack into any itinerary in these months and do not plan a tight onward connection.

Hong Kong entry — register online first
Hong Kong runs its own immigration system, and for Indian nationals the route is specific and well documented. The Immigration Department states that Indian nationals must apply for and successfully complete pre-arrival registration online before they can visit or transit the HKSAR visa-free. The registration is valid for six months, and within that validity a registrant may make multiple visits using the notification slip together with the specific passport linked to the registration. On each visit the permitted stay is up to 14 days. Anyone intending to stay longer than 14 days, or to come for a purpose other than a visit, must apply for an appropriate visa from the Immigration Department instead. Pre-arrival registration is not required for Indian nationals in direct transit by air who do not leave the airport transit area, and holders of Indian diplomatic or official passports, Hong Kong Travel Pass holders and Indians enrolled for the e-Channel frequent visitor service are among those exempted.
The registration is tied to one passport, and each visit is fourteen days Two details catch people out. The first is that the registration is linked to a specific passport — renew the passport and the registration does not travel with you, so re-register before the next trip. The second is that six months of validity is not six months of stay: each individual visit is capped at 14 days, and a longer trip needs a proper visa applied for from the Immigration Department rather than a longer registration. The registration result is issued more or less immediately, so this is not a lead-time problem, but it must actually be done before you fly — an airline can and will refuse boarding without it. We do not publish Hong Kong entry fees or processing times here.
