IndiGo will fly Mumbai to Dar es Salaam daily from 20 November
The route held back in early September as an unannounced intention is now filed and on sale: 6E 1851 and 6E 1852, daily, from 20 November 2026, making IndiGo the only Indian carrier on the sector.
What has changed
IndiGo announced on 10 September that it will fly daily nonstop between Mumbai and Dar es Salaam from 20 November 2026. The airline says the service makes it the only Indian carrier with direct Mumbai–Dar es Salaam flights, and that bookings are already open on its website, app and through travel agents.
This one is worth flagging as a change of status rather than only as a route. In early September the same city pair was being reported from a diplomatic post, with no flight number, no aircraft and no bookable inventory, and we held it for that reason. It is now the airline’s own announcement, with a filed schedule.
The schedule
6E 1851 leaves Mumbai at 02:20 and reaches Dar es Salaam at 06:05. The return, 6E 1852, leaves Dar es Salaam at 07:05 and lands in Mumbai at 15:55. Both times are local, and IndiGo notes the schedule remains subject to regulatory approvals. The airline has not published the aircraft type or the fares.
The overnight outbound and the early-morning arrival are built for connections rather than for comfort: a 06:05 landing gives a full day on the ground or an onward domestic hop within Tanzania.
What it means for Indian travellers
Dar es Salaam is the gateway most Indian itineraries to Tanzania use for Zanzibar and for the coast, and a common starting point for the northern safari circuit via a domestic connection. Until now the sector meant either a Gulf hub connection or Air Tanzania’s own nonstop, so this is a second nonstop rather than a first — but the first flown by an Indian carrier.
Aloke Singh, IndiGo’s chief strategy officer, framed the route around trade and investment as much as tourism, calling Tanzania "a gateway to East Africa". IndiGo already flies from India to Nairobi, Mauritius and the Seychelles; Dar es Salaam is its fourth African destination.
One practical note the announcement does not cover: entry rules. Indian passport holders need a visa for Tanzania, obtainable online in advance, and a separate arrangement applies for Zanzibar. Nothing in this announcement changes either.
