Frequently asked

In Luoyang. You arrive from Beijing at Zhengzhou, but you do not sleep there. You are driven from Zhengzhou to Dengfeng for the Shaolin Temple and then on to Luoyang for the night, which puts you close to the Longmen Grottoes for the next morning.
By a flight or train from Beijing to Zhengzhou in the morning, then by private vehicle to Dengfeng, where the temple stands. After the visit the drive continues to Luoyang. It is the longest travel day of the trip, and the flight or train ticket for the first leg is booked and priced separately from the package.
The grottoes are a long line of caves and niches cut into limestone cliffs beside a river south of Luoyang, filled with Buddhist statues that range from a few centimetres to several metres high. They are a World Heritage site. On this itinerary the visit takes the morning of Day 5, before you travel on to Xi'an.
The local operator schedules one shopping stop in each of three cities on this route: a jade factory in Beijing, a crockery factory in Xi'an and a silk factory in Shanghai. These visits are part of the tour programme rather than optional extras, and there is no obligation to buy anything. We are confirming the operator's exact conditions for the stops and will set them out when you book.
Either. The itinerary allows a high-speed train, which the operator lists at about seven and a half hours, or a flight. Neither ticket is included in the package: flights are a stated exclusion and train tickets are not among the inclusions. We book whichever suits you and quote it separately, and you are met in Shanghai either way.
