Day-by-day itinerary
You are met at Jodhpur airport and driven west into the Thar desert to Jaisalmer, roughly 300 kilometres. The landscape thins steadily as you go, from farmland to scrub to open sand. You check in on arrival and the rest of the day is free. · Jaisalmer
A day in Jaisalmer. The fort here is one of the very few in the world still lived in, with families, shops and temples inside the walls, and the yellow sandstone turns gold in low light. The merchant havelis in the town below are carved in the same stone. · Jaisalmer
A day west towards the border, taking in the temple at Tanot, and on to the sand dunes at Sam on the desert's edge — best in the late afternoon when the heat drops and the light goes long. Camel rides and evening programmes operate at the dunes at your own cost. · Jaisalmer
After breakfast you check out and are driven to Jaisalmer for your onward journey. Your onward travel is not part of this package, so allow the time your airline or the railway requires.
