Day-by-day itinerary
Met at Fiumicino and driven into the city. The first evening is for Trastevere — dinner in its lanes and a walk back across the river past the floodlit Tiber island. Overnight in Rome.
The Colosseum, the Forum and the Palatine hill above them, with a private guide and timed entry in the cooler morning. The afternoon is free for the centro storico — the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, the Trevi Fountain — on foot. Overnight in Rome.
The Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel with a guide, then St Peter's, with the Pantheon on the walk back if you missed it. A free afternoon, and a last dinner in Rome. Overnight in Rome.
Ninety minutes north. The Duomo and Brunelleschi's dome in the afternoon, and the Oltrarno across the river for the evening. Overnight in Florence.
Renaissance Florence at close range — the Uffizi in the morning with a timed entry, Michelangelo's David after lunch — finishing at San Miniato for the view back over the city at sunset. Overnight in Florence.
Under three hours down the peninsula to Naples. The afternoon is the National Archaeological Museum, which holds nearly everything of value taken out of Pompeii, and the evening is pizza in the city that invented it. Overnight in Naples.
A guided morning in the excavated streets beneath Vesuvius — houses, bakeries, the forum and the amphitheatre — which need three hours at least. The afternoon is free: the crater of Vesuvius itself for the energetic, or Naples' old centre and the Spaccanapoli. Overnight in Naples.
Around the bay and over the peninsula to the coast road, with the driver stopping at the viewpoints, and down into Positano, stacked above its beach. Check in and take the evening slowly on the terraces. Overnight in Positano.
A boat across to the island, with the Blue Grotto on the way when the sea allows. Anacapri and the chairlift up Monte Solaro, the Gardens of Augustus above the Faraglioni rocks, and the Piazzetta before the boat back. Overnight in Positano.
Along the coast to Amalfi town for its cathedral and steps, then up the hill to Ravello and the cliff gardens of Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo, which look down the whole coast. Back to Positano for a last evening by the water. Overnight in Positano.
A private transfer along the coast and back to Naples airport for your flight home.
