A guided morning in the excavated streets beneath Vesuvius — houses, bakeries, the forum and the amphitheatre — which need three hours at least. The afternoon is free: the crater of Vesuvius itself for the energetic, or Naples' old centre and the Spaccanapoli. Overnight in Naples. · Naples · Private car
Around the bay and over the peninsula to the coast road, with the driver stopping at the viewpoints, and down into Positano, stacked above its beach. Check in and take the evening slowly on the terraces. Overnight in Positano. · Positano · Private car along the coast road
