No, and it is worth being clear about that before you go. It is a modern sculpture and adventure park, completed in recent years, built around a story from the Ramayana. It is impressive for its scale and its setting rather than its age, and travellers expecting a historic monument sometimes arrive with the wrong expectation.
No — there is a path on foot, and some people prefer it. The cable car is the usual way up and is the sensible choice in heat or with limited mobility. Queues build at weekends and on holidays, and waiting time at the base is the most common complaint about the site.
The cable car does the ascent, but the hilltop itself is rocky and uneven, with steps and open surfaces around the sculpture. Sensible footwear matters. Walking up instead of riding is a real climb and should not be taken on lightly in the middle of the day.
Two to three hours on the hill is typical, plus the drive each way and any queue at the cable car. It is comfortably a day trip and does not fill a day beyond that, which is why we do not pad it with unrelated stops.
October to March, and as early in the day as you can manage. The hilltop is exposed with little shade, and the middle of the day in the hotter months is genuinely uncomfortable. Weekdays are much quieter than weekends.
