Day-by-day itinerary
Your driver meets you at Chandigarh airport or railway station; please plan to arrive by mid-morning. The road runs through Kiratpur, Bilaspur and Mandi to Aut, where it leaves the Manali highway for Larji and the narrower road up through Banjar to Jibhi. It is a full day in the car: we allow eight to nine hours with a lunch stop and breaks, and the last stretch is the slowest. Check in and stop there. If there is daylight left, the path to the waterfall is close by; otherwise it keeps until morning.
The day belongs to the pass road, if it is open. After breakfast the car climbs through Shoja to Jalori Pass, at more than 3,000 metres, for the view towards the snow ranges. A forest path leads from the pass towards Serolsar Lake, about 5 km away; walk the first part and turn back when you have had enough, because the full walk is not planned. From December to March the pass is normally shut by snow, and the day then goes to the waterfall, Shringa Rishi temple and Banjar. The climb to Chehni Kothi is optional in any season.
A short transfer: down to Banjar and up the Tirthan, for which we allow about an hour and a half. On the way, stop at the national park’s complex at Sai Ropa, 5 km beyond Banjar, for the interpretation centre and its small museum. Then check in near the river and leave the afternoon to it. If you want to stretch your legs, the village path from Gushaini follows the Tirthan through the park’s ecozone; go as far as suits you. The park itself is hours further on foot and is not part of this trip. Trout angling can be arranged in season as a paid extra.
Leave after an early breakfast. The car follows the river back down to Larji and Aut and then retraces the highway through Mandi and Bilaspur to Chandigarh airport or railway station. We allow about eight hours with breaks, and hill traffic, roadworks and weather can all add to that, so you reach Chandigarh late in the day. Please book only a late-evening departure, and check the timing with us before you pay for it. The trip ends at the drop in Chandigarh.
