Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1

AtlantaPrivate airport transfer to your hotel

Hartsfield-Jackson is one of the busiest airports in the world, so give immigration some time; your driver will be waiting afterwards. The rest of the day is free. Centennial Olympic Park, laid out for the 1996 Games, is a pleasant first walk, and the evening can be spent at one of the city's many Southern kitchens or in the Indian restaurants of the northern suburbs.

Day 2

AtlantaShared guided tour, joined at the start point on your own

Make your way to the start point for the half-day shared tour. The route varies with the day, but generally runs through Downtown, Midtown and the mansions of Buckhead, stopping at places such as the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park, the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library or Ponce City Market. In the afternoon, visit the World of Coca-Cola, where the exhibits cover the drink's history and a tasting room pours soft drinks from around the world.

Day 3

North Georgia wine countryOvernight AtlantaFull-day wine country tour

A day out north of the city, where the land rises into the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and vineyards line the slopes. The tour stops at three wineries for tastings, then continues to Helen, a former logging town rebuilt in the style of a Bavarian village, with timbered shopfronts along the Chattahoochee River. Lunch there is at your own cost. Soft drinks are always available for non-drinkers. Return to Atlanta in the evening.

Day 4

Atlanta

Nothing is booked. In the city, the Georgia Aquarium, one of the largest in the world, sits beside the World of Coca-Cola, and the High Museum of Art is in Midtown. Stone Mountain, a vast granite dome with a huge relief carving and a summit trail, is under an hour east. For a longer day, Ruby Falls, an underground waterfall inside Lookout Mountain near Chattanooga in Tennessee, is about two hours away and can be arranged with a private car as an option.

Day 5

AtlantaPrivate transfer to Hartsfield-Jackson airport

Breakfast, then the driver takes you back to the airport at the right time for your flight. Atlanta is a major hub, so onward connections to Orlando, New York or the West Coast are frequent if you are continuing your trip in the USA.

Good to know

Frequently asked

Yes, though the tastings are the focus of the morning. The drive through the hills, the vineyard settings and the afternoon in Helen are enjoyable in their own right, and non-drinkers can simply skip the pours. Guests must be 21 or over to taste wine in the USA.
The Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park in Sweet Auburn includes his birth home, Ebenezer Baptist Church where he preached, and the King Center with his tomb. The visitor centre is free. The birth home reopened in 2026 after restoration; its free ranger-led tours take small groups and fill on the day, so arrive early.
It is a long day, about two hours each way by road into Tennessee, but many visitors enjoy it: a guided walk through a cave to a waterfall lit inside the mountain, with nearby Rock City for views. It is optional and needs a private car, which we can arrange.
Summers are hot and humid, with regular afternoon thunderstorms; spring and autumn are mild and the most comfortable for walking, with dogwood and azalea blossom in spring and colouring leaves in the hills in autumn. Winters are cool and occasionally icy, though snow is rare.
Atlanta's airport has direct flights to most major US cities, so it fits well before or after Orlando, New Orleans or the East Coast. We can combine this four-night break with any of our other USA packages and plan the flights between them.
