Frequently asked

One Schengen visa, in the normal case. Slovenia and Croatia are both Schengen members, and Bosnia & Herzegovina and Montenegro are visited as day trips from Dubrovnik; both generally admit Indian travellers holding a valid multiple-entry Schengen visa for short stays without a separate visa. Those rules do change, so your specialist confirms them for your travel dates before the days are booked, and the two days can be swapped for Lokrum or the Elaphiti islands if needed. The Schengen application goes through Croatia, which has the most nights.
Two of the loveliest days in the region: Ljubljana, a small capital with a castle, a river and a market square, and Lake Bled, with its island church and castle on the cliff below the Julian Alps. It is also the natural top of the route — Ljubljana to Zagreb is two hours by road — so it costs no backtracking. Travellers who skip it usually wish they had not.
It has four driving days in nine nights, which is honest to say: Ljubljana to Zagreb, Zagreb to Split via Plitvice, Split to Dubrovnik, and the two excursion days from Dubrovnik. None is longer than five hours and all are in a private car with a driver who stops where you ask. The two three-night bases in Split and Dubrovnik give the trip its rest. If you would rather do less, the eight-night Croatia Highlights journey drops Slovenia and the two border days.
Yes — about two and a half hours each way across the border, which makes it a long but comfortable day with the bridge, the bazaar and lunch by the river in the middle. The Kotor day is shorter, about two hours each way, with the bay, the walled town and the serpentine road up to Lovćen for the view. Both leave early to be through the border posts before the coaches.
Late May, June and September, when the coast is warm, the sea swimmable and the border crossings and old towns not yet at their summer peak. Bled and Ljubljana are green and pleasant from May to October. July and August are hot on the coast and slow at the borders; October is quiet and still mild in Dubrovnik. Winter is not the season for this route.
