Chengdu & Chongqing, 4 Nights

You are picked up on arrival in Chengdu and transferred to your hotel. Nothing is fixed for the rest of the day. If your flight lands early enough and you have the energy, Jinli Old Street is a good first walk, though it is a suggestion rather than a guided visit. The night is in Chengdu.

After breakfast at the hotel you visit the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, where the animals live in landscaped enclosures. In the afternoon you travel to Leshan for the Giant Buddha, a seated figure carved into a riverside cliff. You see it from the water on a boat ride. You return to Chengdu for a second night.

Breakfast is followed by a transfer to the station for the train to Chongqing. Sightseeing begins when you arrive, with Liziba and then Eling Park for a view over the city. You cross the river on the Yangtze cable car. The day ends at Hongya Cave, the stilted riverside complex in the centre of Chongqing.

After breakfast you visit Ciqikou, an old town of narrow streets on the edge of the city. The programme continues at the People's Hall and the Three Gorges Museum, which stand opposite each other. The afternoon finishes with shopping time on the pedestrian streets at Jiefangbei. It is your last night in Chongqing.

You have breakfast at the hotel before leaving. A private transfer takes you to the airport or the railway station for your onward journey. The tour services end there. Onward flights and train tickets are arranged separately from the package.
