Journey highlights

The moments that make this journey unforgettable — the signature experiences we have woven through every day, so the best of the destination is never left to chance.

  • Eight nights down the length of Croatia, Zagreb to Dubrovnik.
  • Plitvice Lakes National Park and its chain of waterfalls.
  • Diocletian's palace at Split and the walled old town of Dubrovnik.
  • A three-island boat tour including the Blue Lagoon.
  • A day trip across the border into Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1

You are transferred privately from Zagreb airport to your hotel. A walking tour of Zagreb follows on a shared basis — the upper town with its cathedral and the lower town's squares are close enough together that walking is the only sensible way to see them. · Zagreb

Day 2

No touring is scheduled and the day is yours. Zagreb is a capital that rewards sitting still in it, and the markets and cafés are the point. A day trip across to Slovenia can be arranged locally on a shared basis — note that it requires a multiple-entry Schengen visa, which not every traveller will hold. · Zagreb

Day 3

You travel from Zagreb to Plitvice by coach on a shared basis. Plitvice Lakes National Park is a chain of sixteen terraced lakes linked by waterfalls, crossed on boardwalks laid just above the water. The visit is on a shared basis. · Plitvice

Day 4

You continue by coach on a shared basis to Zadar on the coast. A walking tour takes in the old town, which sits on a small peninsula and is compact enough to cross in twenty minutes. A sunset cruise can be arranged locally at a supplement. · Zadar

Day 5

You travel down the coast by coach on a shared basis to Split. A walking tour covers the old town, which is built inside and around the walls of Diocletian's palace — a Roman imperial residence that people have simply never stopped living in. · Split

Day 6

A boat day out of Split to three islands, including the Blue Lagoon, where the water shallows over pale sand and turns the colour the name suggests. The tour runs on a shared basis, with an upgrade available locally. · Split

Day 7

You travel on by coach on a shared basis to Dubrovnik. A walking tour follows inside the walled old town, which is closed to traffic and small enough to learn in a single circuit — the walls themselves are the thing most people remember. · Dubrovnik

Day 8

A day trip across the border into Bosnia and Herzegovina on a shared basis. You will need your passport, and you must hold a Schengen visa that allows you to re-enter Croatia afterwards — this is the single most important practical point on the itinerary. · Dubrovnik

Day 9

Breakfast at the hotel, then check out and a private transfer from your hotel to Dubrovnik airport for your onward flight. Allow the check-in time your airline requires.
