Day-by-day itinerary
You arrive at Narita or Haneda and are transferred privately to your Tokyo hotel, where the first three nights of the trip are spent. The rest of the day is free to adjust to the time difference, which is worth doing properly before the touring starts. · Tokyo
A day across Tokyo taking in the Senso-ji temple at Asakusa with its Nakamise-dori approach, the Tokyo Skytree observation deck at 350 metres, and teamLab, where the digital works respond to the people moving through them. · Tokyo
A day trip southwest with a cruise on Lake Ashi, the Owakudani ropeway over the sulphur vents, and the Mount Fuji 5th Station. Whether the summit appears depends entirely on the weather. · Tokyo
You fly from Tokyo to Chitose for Hokkaido. The domestic flight is not included. On arrival the day takes in the Shiroi Koibito park and the covered Tanukikoji shopping street in Sapporo. · Sapporo
A day into central Hokkaido — Farm Tomita with its lavender rows, the flower hills of Shikisai-no-oka, and the Shirogane Blue Pond, whose colour comes from minerals in the water. · Sapporo
A day across Sapporo taking in the Hill of the Buddha, where the statue sits inside a lavender-planted mound, the beer museum, the clock tower, the TV tower and Odori Park running through the city centre. · Sapporo
A morning at Otaru — the canal town, the Tanaka sake brewery and the music box museum — before flying from Chitose to Osaka. The domestic flight is not included. · Osaka
A full day west by bullet train from Osaka to Hiroshima and across to Miyajima island, taking in the Itsukushima shrine, a photo stop at the floating torii gate, the Atomic Bomb Dome and the Peace Memorial Park and Museum. · Osaka
A day out to Kyoto from your Osaka base — the gold-leafed Kinkaku-ji, the Arashiyama bamboo grove and the Fushimi Inari shrine with its corridors of vermilion gates. The three sit far enough apart that the day is a full one, and Kyoto rewards the early start. · Osaka
A photo stop at Osaka Castle, then out to Nara for the deer park and the Todai-ji temple complex, with free time at Shinsaibashi before your final night. · Osaka
Breakfast at the hotel, then check out and a private transfer to the airport for your onward flight. Your onward flight is not part of this package, so allow the check-in time your airline requires.
