You continue to Patan, also called Lalitpur, whose Durbar Square holds a very dense collection of temples, then to Swayambhunath, the golden-spired stupa on a hill above the valley with its painted eyes of the Buddha, and finally to the Budhanilkantha temple, where a large reclining statue of Vishnu lies in an open-air pool. Frequently asked

Pokhara to Jomsom is about 190 km and takes six to eight hours, with about half the road paved and the rest rough, with hairpin bends. The next morning Muktinath is one and a half to two hours each way, plus about 30 minutes on foot at the end, and the same long road back to Pokhara. It is a demanding itinerary for older travellers and young children.
The conservation area permit fee for Jomsom is included. It needs two passport-size photographs and a photocopy of your passport or voter ID, scanned and sent when you book. The permit office in Kathmandu is open from 10.30 to 14.30, Sunday to Friday except government holidays, and if the permit is not issued in time it can be issued in Pokhara. If it is left until Jomsom the fee doubles and a trekkers' registration fee also applies, and we cannot help with it outside Kathmandu.
Jomsom is a small mountain village and only basic accommodation is available, in non-air-conditioned rooms. The other hotels, in Kathmandu and Pokhara, are in the category you choose, from 3-star to 5-star, and breakfast is included every day.
The programme is priced for Indian nationals holding an Indian passport or a voter ID, and does not apply to other nationalities; OCI and PIO cards are not accepted as identification in Nepal. For adults flying to Kathmandu the document is an Indian passport valid for at least six months or a voter ID; an Aadhaar card, PAN card or driving licence is not valid for the flight. Children under 18 can use a school or college ID with a bonafide school certificate. Rules change, so we confirm the current requirements when you book.
The vehicle stops at the drop-off point near Muktinath village and the temple is another 30 minutes' walk. Ponies are available and are paid for directly. The darshan is on your own, without a guide. Rates are not published; the price is on request.
