Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1

Nong KhiawPrivate vehicle with guide, about 4 hours

You leave Luang Prabang at about 8:30 for the drive of about four hours to Nong Khiaw, on the Nam Ou river. On the way you stop at Ban Na Yang, a village where silk is raised and woven into traditional Lao dress, and walk through the village. After check-in at the guesthouse you walk around Nong Khiaw with your guide. No meals are included today.

Day 2

Hill village homestayWalking with guide and local trail guide

At about 6:00 you climb to the Pha Xom Nang viewpoint above Nong Khiaw for sunrise, then return to the guesthouse for breakfast. At about 8:30 you drive to a Khmu village, where your guide shows you around, and start a trek of about three hours to a village of the Hmong and Khmu. You stay in a local homestay, and in the evening your guide talks about the history and traditions of the people who live here. Meals included today: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 3

Nong KhiawWalking; private boat on the Nam Ou

After breakfast at the homestay you walk for one to two hours down to the bank of the Nam Ou. A boat takes you to Muang Ngoi Kao for a walk around the village, and then down the river to Nong Khiaw, where you walk to your hotel. Meals included today: breakfast and lunch.

Day 4

Luang PrabangPrivate vehicle with guide, about 4 hours

After breakfast and check-out you look around the local market, then drive back to Luang Prabang, stopping at Hmong and Khmu villages on the way. The package services end on arrival in Luang Prabang. A hotel in Luang Prabang is not included. Meals included today: breakfast.

No. The package covers the arrangements on the ground only. Your international flights to and from Laos are booked and quoted separately, and we can add them to your quotation. The tour starts and ends in Luang Prabang, so you need to make your own way there.
Yes. The vehicle, guide and boat trips are private to your party throughout; there are no shared coach tours. The homestay night is in a village house with shared, simple facilities.
Breakfast is included every day from the second day. The itinerary also includes 2 lunches and 1 dinner, each on the day shown. Other meals and all drinks are paid for locally.
The places on this route are small, and each has a limited choice of hotels, resorts or guesthouses, so there is one standard rather than a choice of star categories. We name the property for each night in your quotation. The homestay is basic by design. Rooms are on a twin or double sharing basis, and a single room carries a supplement.
