Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1

LucernePrivate transfer

Met at Zurich Airport and driven straight to Lucerne, with nothing planned for the rest of the day but the lakefront and dinner. If you arrive early, the Chapel Bridge and the old town are a ten-minute walk from most hotels. Overnight in Lucerne.

Day 2

LucerneBoat, cogwheel railway & cable car

The classic circuit: a boat along the lake to Alpnachstad, the steepest cogwheel railway in the world up to Pilatus Kulm, and the cable cars down the other side to Kriens. The summit terraces look across the whole of central Switzerland; take the short ridge walk if the weather is clear. Evening free in Lucerne. Overnight in Lucerne.

Day 3

InterlakenLuzern–Interlaken Express

A slow morning, then the two-hour panoramic train over the Brünig Pass and along the turquoise length of Lake Brienz. Check in, and take the Harder Kulm funicular up above the town for sunset over both lakes with the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau lined up behind. Overnight in Interlaken.

Day 4

InterlakenCogwheel railway

The high point of the trip, literally: through the Eiger by rack railway to Jungfraujoch at 3,454 metres, with the Aletsch Glacier below the Sphinx terrace and snow underfoot at the plateau. Go up one valley and down the other. Back in Interlaken by late afternoon. Overnight in Interlaken.

Day 5

Interlaken

No timetable. A boat to the Giessbach Falls on Lake Brienz, a picnic in the Lauterbrunnen valley below the waterfalls, or a couples' spa afternoon at the hotel — your specialist will suggest a few options and book whichever you choose. Dinner in the village of Wilderswil or in Interlaken itself. Overnight in Interlaken.

Day 6

ZermattTrain via Spiez and Visp

South through the Lötschberg tunnel to Visp and up the Matter valley on the narrow-gauge line to Zermatt, where there are no cars and an electric taxi takes you the last few hundred metres. The Matterhorn stands at the head of the valley; the evening is for the village and a candlelit dinner we book in advance. Overnight in Zermatt.

Day 7

ZermattCogwheel railway

The Gornergrat railway to 3,089 metres, with the Matterhorn across the valley the whole way up and a ring of glaciers at the top. Walk down one stage of the line to Riffelberg or Riffelsee for the reflection of the mountain in the lake, then a slow afternoon in the village. Overnight in Zermatt.

Day 8

ZermattTrain & private transfer

The train down the valley and along the Rhône to Zurich Airport, or a private car from Täsch if you would rather not change — about three and a half hours either way — for your flight home.

Frequently asked

Because a honeymoon is the one trip where the pace matters more than the count. Each base gets at least two nights, which means unpacking once, a slow breakfast, and mountain days that start when you are ready rather than when the train leaves. The three places chosen — Lucerne, Interlaken and Zermatt — are also the three most romantic settings in the country, in our view, and none of them needs a car.
Yes, and it is the first thing we will talk about. This itinerary is priced as a starting point on well-reviewed four-star properties; there are five-star options in all three towns, and in Zermatt in particular some hotels have rooms facing the Matterhorn directly. Tell us your budget and what matters most — a view, a spa, a location by the lake — and the quote is built around that.
It can be lovely, but it is a different trip. From December to March the valleys are snowy, Zermatt is a ski resort and Interlaken is quieter. Some lake boats and the Pilatus cogwheel do not run in winter, so this itinerary swaps those days for winter alternatives. If you are travelling between mid-October and mid-May, ask your specialist for the winter version before you decide: the Golden Round Trip runs only in summer (in 2026, from 11 May to 18 October).
For travel between May and September, three to four months ahead is comfortable for the hotels and rooms you actually want, and it leaves time for the Schengen visa, which should be applied for at least six weeks before departure. Peak wedding-season months in India — October to February — coincide with Switzerland's quieter season, so there is a little more flexibility then.
Breakfast is included every day at the hotel. Dinners are left open on purpose so you can choose between the village restaurants each evening, but Indian restaurants are easy to find in Lucerne and Interlaken, and there is one in Zermatt too. If you would prefer Indian dinners arranged in advance, or purely vegetarian meals, say so when you enquire and we will add them to the quote.
