Day-by-day itinerary
You land at Zurich and walk across to the railway station directly beneath the airport, then take the train to your base in central Switzerland. The source names several things that can be arranged locally around Zurich — an airport observation deck, a chocolate visitor centre, a steep funicular and the national museum. A full-day excursion to Mount Titlis. The ascent runs by cable car in stages, the last of them rotating slowly so the view turns around you on the way up. The summit stands on a glacier with an ice cave and a cliff walk, and there is snow underfoot whatever the month. · Central Switzerland
A full-day excursion to the Jungfraujoch, the highest railway station in Europe. The cog railway tunnels up inside the mountain for the final stretch, and the station opens onto the Aletsch glacier — the longest in the Alps — with an ice palace cut into it. · Central Switzerland
No touring is scheduled and the day is yours. The lakes and small towns around your base are easy to reach independently. A high-altitude glacier excursion and a Bollywood locations tour can both be arranged locally; neither is included. · Central Switzerland
You make your own way to the station for the train to Zermatt, and your own way from Zermatt station to your hotel. Zermatt is car-free — the village runs on electric vehicles and horse carts — so arriving by train is the only way in. · Zermatt
A Matterhorn excursion. The mountain stands almost alone above the valley, which is why its outline is the most recognisable in the Alps, and the ascents out of Zermatt put you level with it rather than beneath it. · Zermatt
Breakfast, then check out and make your way to Montreux station and on to the airport for your journey home. There is no private airport transfer on this departure, so allow for the rail journey on top of your airline's check-in time.

- Station transfers. Travel between railway stations and hotels is your own arrangement throughout.
