Day-by-day itinerary
Your driver meets you at Udaipur’s airport, about 25 km north-east of the centre, or at the railway station, and takes you to the hotel. Nothing is fixed for the rest of the day. If you arrive with daylight to spare, the lanes around the lake are the obvious first walk, and they cost nothing. Sightseeing proper starts tomorrow, so an early night is no loss.
The day starts at the City Palace, the long run of courtyards and terraces above Lake Pichola, and continues to the Jagdish Temple, built in 1651 and still in daily use. After lunch the car goes north to Saheliyon ki Bari, the fountain garden laid out by Maharana Sangram Singh II, and to Fateh Sagar. A boat on Pichola towards sunset closes the day; tickets are bought at the jetty and sailings depend on the operator. Sajjangarh, the 19th-century hilltop palace, is included if time allows.
A road day with an evening at the end of it. Leave after breakfast for the drive of about 165 km; we allow about four hours, the last part on the hairpin road that climbs from Abu Road. After check-in and a late lunch, the afternoon goes to Nakki Lake — a boat if you want one, then the short climb to Toad Rock. If the light and your energy hold, the car runs you to Sunset Point for dusk.
The order of the day is set by the temples, which admit visitors only from noon. So the morning goes to the high ground: Guru Shikhar, about 15 km out, with roughly 300 steps up to the summit shrine, then Achalgarh and the Achaleshwar Mahadev temple on the way back. You reach Dilwara for the midday opening and take the five marble temples slowly, Vimal Vasahi and Luna Vasahi above all. No photographs are allowed inside. The evening is yours.
After an early breakfast the car goes back down the hill and across to Udaipur, again about four hours, and drops you at the airport or the railway station. The airport lies on the far side of the city from the Mount Abu road, so the drop takes longer than the drive alone. Please book a departure from mid-afternoon onward and send us the ticket; we set the morning start against it when we quote.
