Best places to visit abroad in 2027 from India: twelve picks and the month to go

By Live Traveller6 min readPublished October 31, 2026

Where to travel abroad in 2027 from India? Twelve places in calendar order, with the best months, what is different in 2027 and the catch for each.

The short answer

Choose the month first, then the place. Most of 2027's good trips abroad are decided by season, and only three dates in the year are fixed by events: GREEN×EXPO in Yokohama (19 March to 26 September), the total solar eclipse of 2 August, and the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup in southern Africa (2 October to 21 November). Below are twelve international places in calendar order, with what our own guides say about the season, what is different in 2027 where there is something sourced to say, and the catch to plan around. We have not checked entry rules for this article, so confirm the visa position for your passport before you fix dates. Places within India are in a separate guide.

How to use this list

Each pick has the same three parts: the window (the months our guides recommend), the 2027 angle (only where an official source gives a date), and the catch. Where there is no 2027 angle, we say so rather than invent one. We quote no prices: they change with dates and are better discussed once you have a month.

January to March: warm winters

1. Maldives. Our country guide gives December to April as the best season. There is no 2027 event; what matters is choosing the right kind of island. The catch is that islands differ a great deal in style, so decide the style first: our guide to which Maldives island suits your budget and style and the resorts by atoll do that. See the Maldives packages.

2. Thailand. Our guide gives November to March. There is no single 2027 event. The catch is to pick one beach base rather than three: Phuket, Krabi or Koh Samui helps. See the Thailand packages.

March to June: blossom and the shoulder season

3. Japan, with GREEN×EXPO. Our guide gives March to May for blossom and September to November for autumn colour. The 2027 angle is GREEN×EXPO 2027 in Yokohama, which its organiser lists as running from 19 March to 26 September 2027 at the former Kamiseya Communication Facility, with 15 million visitors expected. The organiser's overview page does not give opening hours or ticket categories, so check its official site. The catch is overlap: the Expo's first weeks fall in blossom season, and Golden Week at the end of April is another busy period. Our cherry-blossom planning guide covers the crowds, and Japan for a honeymoon covers pace. See the Japan packages.

4. South Korea. Our guide gives April to May and October to November. There is no 2027 event. The catch is choosing between the capital, the port city and the island rather than trying all three in a short trip: South Korea first trip: Seoul, Busan or Jeju. See the South Korea packages.

5. Jordan. Our guide gives March to May and September to November. There is no 2027 event. The catch is that the sights are outdoors, so the season matters; our guides to how many nights Jordan needs and floating in the Dead Sea help you shape the trip. See the Jordan packages.

6. Turkey. Our guide gives April to May and September to October. There is no 2027 event. The catch is that the famous balloon mornings depend on weather: read Cappadocia hot-air balloons before you plan around one flight. See the Turkey packages.

7. Greece. Our guide gives April to June and September to October. There is no 2027 event. The catch is that Greece needs a Schengen visa, per our country guide, so allow time for it, and to decide on islands before you choose flights: the Greek islands for a first trip. See the Greece packages.

June to September: cool mountains and an eclipse

8. Switzerland. Our guide gives June to September. There is no 2027 event. The catch is to decide early whether a rail pass suits your route: Switzerland in 5 to 7 nights and the Swiss Travel Pass. See the Switzerland packages.

9. Bali. Our guide gives April to October. There is no 2027 event. The catch is moving too much: pick one or two bases (where to stay in Bali). See the Indonesia packages.

10. Egypt, for the 2 August eclipse. NASA lists a total solar eclipse on 2 August 2027, with the greatest eclipse at 10:07 UT, a central duration of 6 minutes 23 seconds and a path 258 km wide. EclipseWise lists the path of totality as crossing Morocco, Spain, Algeria, Libya, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Somalia. Sources differ by a few seconds on the length of totality at Luxor, which is about six minutes. The catch is the heat: Luxor's average July high is 41.4 °C (World Meteorological Organization figures, 1981 to 2010), and our Egypt guide's best season is October to April, so an eclipse trip is a trade between a sky event and the hottest part of the year. Use certified eclipse glasses and follow NASA's or your national space agency's safety guidance. Our guides to Egypt for a first trip and choosing a Nile cruise cover the routes. We have not built a package around the eclipse. See the Egypt packages.

October to November: a cricket World Cup and the south-east

11. South Africa, for the cricket World Cup. The ICC says the tournament begins on 2 October 2027 and ends with the final on 21 November in Johannesburg, hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, with 14 teams. India's group fixtures on the ICC schedule are 7 October v Australia in Cape Town, 10 October v Pakistan in Johannesburg, 14 October v Afghanistan in Tshwane, 17 October v a qualifier in Bloemfontein and 24 October, Zimbabwe v India, at Victoria Falls. India's later matches depend on results, and the schedule page gives no start times. The catch is the season: our South Africa guide gives May to September for safari and November to March for Cape Town, so the tournament dates sit mostly outside the safari window. Tickets are sold only through the ICC's official ticketing channel: its ballot is open until 21 November 2026, and entering does not guarantee tickets. We do not sell match tickets, and we have not built a package around the tournament. See the South Africa packages.

12. Vietnam. Our guide gives October to April overall, but it varies by region: the national tourism site points to November to April for the south, spring and early autumn for the north, and warns of typhoon and heavy-rain risk in the centre from September to November. There is no 2027 event. The catch is that the country is long, so choose two regions, not three: Vietnam first trip: north, central or south. See the Vietnam packages.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Choosing the place before the month, then finding the season is wrong.
  • Planning an eclipse trip without a plan for the heat.
  • Assuming a package includes event tickets. Ours do not, and we have not built event packages.
  • Booking Japan in blossom weeks without flexibility; late March and early April are the busiest weeks of the Japanese travel year, according to our Japan itineraries.
  • Leaving the visa to the last month.
  • Splitting a short trip across too many bases.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best place to visit abroad in 2027?

It depends on the month you can travel. Match your month to the windows above, then choose between the places that fit.

Which 2027 events are worth travelling for?

Three have official dates: GREEN×EXPO in Yokohama (19 March to 26 September), the total solar eclipse on 2 August, and the cricket World Cup in southern Africa (2 October to 21 November). Whether any of them is worth a trip depends on what you enjoy.

Is the total solar eclipse visible from India?

India is not among the countries on the path of totality in the source we read. We did not check whether a partial eclipse is visible from India; use an official source for that.

Do you sell cricket World Cup tickets?

No. Tickets are sold only through the ICC's official ticketing channel, and we have not built a package around the tournament.

When should I book 2027?

Our Japan guide says to book blossom season 8 to 12 months ahead. For other places, tell us your month and we will tell you what lead times apply.
