Bhuj and the Kutch Circuit — White Rann, Kala Dungar and Mandvi in Three Nights

Your driver meets you at Bhuj airport or railway station and heads north, roughly 85 km and about two hours with the stop at Bhirandiyara, where the Rann entry permit is taken or checked. After check-in near the salt, the late afternoon is spent out on the White Rann through sunset. In the dry season this is a white salt plain; outside it the surface may be wet or flooded and the visit is to the edge. Arrivals after early afternoon may miss sunset.

Early risers can return to the salt for sunrise before breakfast. The car then runs to Kala Dungar, the highest point in Kutch, for the view over the Rann from beside the Dattatreya temple. This is a military area, so cameras stay away near the posts. On the way south the route detours to Nirona for rogan painting, lacquerwork and bell-making, if the workshops are open, and reaches Bhuj by evening. Allow most of the day for the driving.

A day out to Mandvi, 58 km south-west of Bhuj and roughly an hour and a half each way. Walk the bank of the Rukmavati where wooden ships are built by hand, then continue 7 km beyond the town to Vijay Vilas Palace, completed in 1929 as a royal summer house. There is time on Mandvi beach before the drive back. Palace entry is paid on the spot; opening days are confirmed at the time of quoting.

The morning is for Bhuj itself: Aina Mahal and Prag Mahal in the Darbargadh complex, then the Kutch Museum or the Smritivan earthquake memorial, depending on the day of the week and your departure time. The palaces close for a long midday break, and each site has its own weekly closed day, so we set the order when we quote. Bhujodi’s weavers are an optional last stop, if time allows, before the drop at the airport or station.
