Day by day

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1

Delhi to MussoorieOvernight MussooriePrivate vehicle

Your driver meets you in Delhi, at the airport or New Delhi railway station, for the journey north to Mussoorie. The plains give way to the Doon valley and then to the climb up to the ridge. It is a travelling day with no sightseeing, ending with dinner at your hotel.

Day 2

MussooriePrivate vehicle

Mussoorie’s sights are spread along its ridge and the car links them through the day: Gun Hill, the town’s best-known viewpoint; Christ Church, among the oldest in the Himalaya; and Lal Tibba at the Landour end. In between come Mussoorie Lake, the Tibetan Buddhist Temple in Happy Valley and two waterfalls, Jharipani and Mossy Falls. Ropeway and entry tickets along the way are paid directly.

Day 3

Mussoorie to RishikeshOvernight RishikeshPrivate vehicle

The car comes down from Mussoorie and across to Rishikesh on the Ganga. On this route Rishikesh is a pause between two hill towns, and no sightseeing is listed. After check-in the rest of the day is yours, with the river close at hand and dinner included at the hotel.

Day 4

Rishikesh to NainitalOvernight NainitalPrivate vehicle

A long transfer from Garhwal into Kumaon, following the edge of the plains before the road climbs again to Nainital. This is the main driving day of the trip and nothing else is planned. You arrive in the lake town for the first of two nights, with the evening free.

Day 5

Nainital and Kainchi DhamOvernight NainitalPrivate vehicle

The day’s outing is to Kainchi Dham, the ashram founded by Neem Karoli Baba beside a stream in a wooded valley, now visited by devotees from all over the world. It is paired with Hanuman Garhi, a temple on a hill near Nainital that is known for its sunset. The remaining hours are free in town; boating on the lake is at your own cost.

Day 6

Nainital to DelhiPrivate vehicle

After breakfast the car leaves the hills and returns to Delhi, where the trip ends with a drop at the airport. The entire day is the road journey, so an evening or night flight is the right choice. We agree the departure time from Nainital with you once your flight is known.

Good to know

Frequently asked

Neither is scheduled or included. The listed Nainital sightseeing is Kainchi Dham and Hanuman Garhi. You do have free time in town on both evenings and after the outing, and the lake is at its centre, so boating or the ropeway can be done on your own and paid for directly.
The visit is the main purpose of the day, so there is no rush. Time spent there depends on the queue for darshan, which is longest at weekends and around the annual June fair. Phones and cameras may be restricted inside the ashram, and modest dress is expected.
This route is built for travellers who want hill towns and temples rather than wildlife, so it goes straight from Rishikesh to Nainital and spends the saved night there. If Corbett matters to you, our other Uttarakhand routes from Delhi include one or two nights at the park.
Yes, with some planning. The sightseeing is gentle and by car, but days one, four and six are long drives on hill roads. We suggest regular breaks, ground-floor or lift-access rooms where available, and telling us about any mobility needs at the enquiry stage so the hotels are chosen accordingly.
Yes. Breakfast and dinner are included at the hotel on all five nights. Lunch is not included anywhere, which leaves you free to stop on the road on the driving days and to eat in the bazaar in Mussoorie and Nainital.
