Day-by-day itinerary
You are met on arrival by a representative and transferred to your hotel on a private basis. Athens spreads wide and flat under its hills, with the Acropolis visible from a surprising number of streets. The rest of the day is free. · Athens
The guided circuit starts today. You leave Athens by the coastal road with a short stop at the Corinth Canal, a narrow cut through solid rock that is more striking in person than in photographs, and continue across the Peloponnese to Olympia, where the ancient games were held. · Olympia
The morning is given to the archaeological site at Olympia with its sanctuary and museum. You then travel on by coach as part of the circuit to Delphi, which the ancient Greeks held to be the centre of the world, set on the steep slope of Mount Parnassus above a valley of olive trees. · Delphi
The morning covers the archaeological site and museum at Delphi. You then continue north by coach to Kalambaka, the town that sits directly beneath the rock pillars of Meteora. The approach in late afternoon light is the best view of the whole circuit. · Kalambaka
You visit Meteora, where monasteries were built on the summits of near-vertical rock pillars and several are still in use. The circuit then returns by coach to Athens, where you have two nights to finish the trip. · Athens
A half-day guided tour of Athens on a shared seat-in-coach basis, taking in the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum. The rest of the day is free, and the old quarter below the Acropolis is an easy walk from most central hotels. · Athens
Breakfast at the hotel, then check out and a private transfer from your hotel to the airport for your onward flight. Allow the check-in time your airline requires.
