Day-by-day itinerary
You are met at Kochi airport and driven up into the Western Ghats to Munnar, the road climbing through hairpin bends with tea gardens on the slopes and waterfalls beside it. You check in and the rest of the day is free. · Munnar
A day around Munnar taking in Eravikulam National Park, home to the Nilgiri tahr, and the reservoirs at Mattupetty and Kundala where boating operates on water edged by tea on one side and open grassland on the other. Echo Point and the tea museum complete the circuit. Entrance and boating charges are not included. · Munnar
You drive to Thekkady, check in, and spend the afternoon at the Periyar wildlife sanctuary — dense evergreen forest declared a tiger reserve in 1978, set around a large lake formed by the Mullaperiyar dam. Cardamom, pepper, tea and coffee plantations surround the town. · Thekkady
A boat trip on Lake Periyar, which is the usual way to look for elephant and other wildlife along the shoreline. The rest of the day can be given to the spice plantations around Thekkady — cardamom, pepper, tea and coffee all grow here. Boating charges are not included. · Thekkady
You travel to Alleppey, where the hills give way to still water, paddy fields and coconut groves. The canals and the beach are both close to the town, and the day is given to the backwater setting rather than to touring. · Alleppey
A second day at Alleppey. The canals, paddy fields and coconut groves are the setting, and the beach and the temples around the town are within easy reach. The day is unstructured by design; anything you choose to arrange locally is at your own cost. · Alleppey
After breakfast you check out and are driven to Kochi airport in time for your onward flight. Your onward flight is not part of this package, so allow the check-in time your airline requires. If the drive is a long one from your final hotel, the transfer will be timed accordingly.
