Good to Know

Frequently asked

Usually one. Under the British-Irish Visa Scheme, an Indian traveller's UK visitor visa endorsed for the scheme allows a visit to Ireland as well, provided the UK is entered first — which this route does, landing in London. Your specialist confirms the endorsement when preparing the application. Ireland is not in Schengen, so a Schengen visa is of no use here.
Train London to Edinburgh in about four and a half hours; a flight of under an hour from Edinburgh to Belfast, because the alternative is a full day by road and ferry; and the train from Belfast to Dublin in two hours. Every seat is reserved and every station and airport transfer is private. It is a loop that ends where the flights home leave from.
Because the Cliffs of Moher are a full day from Dublin and the city itself needs one, and because ending with three nights in one place gives a ten-night circuit somewhere to slow down before the flight. Dublin also has the best connections to India of the four capitals after London.
It is, if Ireland is on your list as well; if it is not, the eight-night London & Scotland journey gives London a fourth night and the Highlands two. Both begin the same way. What this circuit adds is the whole island of Ireland — Belfast's shipyard history, the causeway coast, and Dublin — for two more nights than the Scotland trip.
May to September, with June and September the most comfortable and August the busiest, particularly in Edinburgh during the festivals. The weather is changeable in all four cities in every month, so a waterproof is essential whatever the date. December is worth considering for the Christmas markets in Edinburgh and the lights in London and Dublin.
